Today’s walk in the rain
told a different tale
We (that is Mocha and I)
became aware that
unlike most people on the planet
we can enjoy a walk in the rain
Me with my high tech
Gortex, breathable, rain coat
she with her full course of vaccinations
and stomach full with top-of-the line dog food
such Sabbath walks
are rare for most who
have no protection from
the rain of poverty
the onslaught of bigotry
the piercing assault of hunger
no time to contemplate
only to survive
Now I think I’ll have my morning cappuccino
no sugar added, only bitter tears
All in God’s time
and in God’s space
